A Note to My Visitors

I was very encouraged by the response to my feature about Melungeons, the group found in The American South who probably predate the arrival of the English.I always have felt more attached to history when it is presented as questions and puzzling facts rather than a political catechism. There are other pieces of the American mosaic that I want to focus on in future articles, as well as the Melungeons. The Dutch, for instance were also original settlers of North America. indeed, President Martin van Buren was speaking Dutch in the White House with his wife while President from 1837 to 1841. Louisiana , unlike any other state, has a Napoleonic legal code inherited from the French. I am looking forward to presenting the vivid complexities of America's ethnic composition, and I thank my readers who indicated their interest in this topic by clicking on the Melungeon presentation from all over America.
