The First Battle: Obama’s Domestic Security Force

The Republicans have now entered a new phase in which they are no longer the majority. The strength of the Republican party as a minority will rest upon the strength of its ideas and the degree to which these principles resonate with the American people.

Back an the beginning of Bill Clinton’s first term, he and his wife pushed aggressively for a national health insurance system. Fatal flaws were found in it and it was defeated by an outpouring of popular opposition

Barack Obama has pledged to have a national domestic security force that is independent of the armed forces, state and local police already in existence. This armed domestic security force would be created by the Obama administration. Its leadership would probably be hand picked by Obama. He describes it as follows.

“We cannot continue to rely on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives that we’ve set. We’ve got to have a civilian national security force that’s just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded.”

There are many precedents for an army with personal loyalty to a leader. Iran’s Revolutionary Guards, China’s Red Guards and Germany’s SS all had chains of loyalty that bypassed existing chains of authority.

The Army, Navy and Air Force are all under the command of the President. When a new President takes office, their loyalty is transferred to him or her. Their primary allegiance is to the presidency. The same can be said for police, the National Guard and the Coast Guard.

What would be the primary loyalty of Obama’s security force? Would it be to Obama the man or to the President who happens to be Obama? What sort of civic education would take place in Obama’s security forces?

Our nation’s armed forces have a tradition stretching back over two centuries of never intervening in politics. Never has there been a military coup. When a new President assumes office, the loyalty of the armed forces is transferred to him or her.

Our country is facing a serious recession. How will the government pay for the new organisation? In part it will be through budget cuts in the military. Is there perhaps a faint possibility that the Armed Forces are too conservative for Obama’s liking? I can think of no other reason for the Democrat’s penchant for blocking the counting of military ballots. The civic education in the military might not suit Democratic tastes. Mrs. Obama has another idea.

Barack Obama will require you to work. He is going to demand that you shed your cynicism. That you put down your divisions. That you come out of your isolation. That you move out of your comfort zones. That you push yourselves to be better. And that you engage. Barack will never allow you to go back to your lives as usual, uninvolved, uninformed.”

So Obama plans to see that his brigades are informed, educated and reeducated. Reeducation. It has an interesting ring. And what better way to bring a recalcitrant military around to Obamian thinking than to make them compete for scarce money with Obama’s personal creation? Could the economic instability in which we find ourselves sharpen the loyalty of Obama’s domestic security police? ( What will we call it, the
